Definition

What is networking?

Networking is the connection of two or more computing devices by using some networking devices to share the information between the network.
How we are using the network today?


Today, without a network we can’t live a second because everyone has at least one mobile phone. Computers evolved as Mobile phones, Laptops, Tablets, Playstations, etc. The computers are evolved in many different ways like the above examples. These devices are connected with each other. For example, a user in India can send a message to the user in America. By using your computer you can send messages, calls, files, videos, images, etc. All these things are getting done when your device is connected to any network. We discuss more a network in the upcoming headings.
Types of Network

Based on the distance, the network is classified into different types. Some of them are listed below,

• PAN
• LAN
• MAN
• WAN

PAN

PAN or Personal Area Network is the connection of devices in a home network. Here the connection is not available to the others. In-home network, the personal devices are connected and its access is only inside the home. In figure-1, you can see the PAN connection.

LAN

LAN is Local Area Network which connects the computer devices in a small area like Office, School, Laboratory. This connection is based on two types wired and wireless.

Wired LAN – Here the connection is made using a wired medium called Ethernet Cables.

Wireless LAN– Here the connection is made using a wireless medium like WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.

MAN

MAN is known as Metropolitan area network. It covers the area larger than LAN but it is smaller than WAN. For example, the connection of more LAN is called a Metropolitan area network.

WAN

Wide Area Network(WAN) is the widest connection which is made through World Wide. Internet is an example of WAN which is used all over the world.

What is the network connection?

Everyone uses networking daily in the name of the Internet. It is one of the worldwide connection which is accessed through your SIM card and ISP. If you want to send any image to your friend in other countries, you can easily send through any messaging application like Facebook, Whatsapp, Telegram, etc.

If you turn on the mobile data, it means you are online in your network. So you can receive the messages and files and also you can send them to others.
